It’s that time of year again….yep it’s playoffs and provincial playdowns time again. Playoffs decide who is the city champion while provincial playdowns decide who goes to provincials.
Quite a few levels have already completed their playoffs and playdowns while others are only just starting. The U12C level has started their playoffs, but they are being put on hold this weekend for provincial playdowns. For Southern Alberta provincial playdowns are held out in Hussar, which means an hour and half drive there and back on both Saturday and Sunday.
The top two teams in each of the three pools get into provincials, with no round two of playdowns. The teams participating in provincials need to be announced at least two weeks prior to provincials. As well with playdowns you have to apply to go, and if you don’t you don’t get a chance to get into provincials.
After playdowns are complete the teams will still participate in playoffs that will finish before provincials. You can still end up being a provincial champion without being a city champion now unlike when you had to win cities to go to provincials.
There is a lot of ringette going on between now and the end of March here in Calgary. After all provincials are complete the Western Canadian Ringette Championships will take place in Calgary from Wednesday, March 25, 2015 to Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park.
